Layover in Frankfort

Now we are in the airport in Frankfort, having survived crossing the Atlantic, packed into to coach. I was very worried about surviving as a sardine, but there were some available seats and the guy seated on the row with us chose to move to an empty, roomier seat and gave us a three seat row to ourselves! Still cramped, but much better!!

Getting onto the flight at JFK was an experience, as we were selected for “special security” check. This meant that our bags got searched, checked for explosives, and we were put into a machine that shot puffs of air all over us to see, I suppose, if we would blow up! :-D It was determined that we were not terrorists after all, and we finally we able to head for the plane.

I managed to break, yes, break, a plastic cup of water, giving myself a shower. Fortunately, I missed all the electronic equiptment!

It was interesting to watch as we flew in over Germany, and to note how different the landscape appeared from what it looks like at home. A network of rivers, winding through beautifully maintained farmland, with densely packed clusters of houses comprising towns, and very thick forests.

It was really beautiful to watch the sun rise as we flew in --- we couldn’t see much overnight, as it was cloudy and we flew at such a high altitude.

Our cell phones are off and inactive (how will we ever survive?!!) but we do have the international phone for emergencies, and our moms have that number if needed.

Our next update from Athens!!
